Penelope's Blanket

Penelope's Blanket is an instrument made of regular and conductive yarn, with hacked knitting needles attached to it. It was made to be used in Waiting, a performance based on the story of Penelope waiting for Ulysses that appears in The Odyssey.

The instrument can communicate serially using arduino so the signals can be interpreted by Max/MSP to create midi sounds or trigger samples.

The pattern in the blanket is based on a sound wave of my voice and was knitted by the amazing knitting machine of the talented Devon Dagworthy.

Penelope's blanket was used for performance on the NIME Show at South Paw, Brooklyn on December 15, 2009 and was exhibited in the ITP Winter Show 2009.
